California Law for Overtime Compensation

Employers are required by federal and state law to pay overtime compensation to most employees working more than 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. The law requires that employers pay overtime pay of one and a half times the regular wages for all hours worked over 8 hours per day and the first 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day of work. Double the normal rate of pay is required for all hours worked in excess of 12 hours in a work day.
